Comparing Tresemmé and L’Oréal Shampoos for Frizzy, Damaged Hair Control with Keratin

Posted on May 11, 2025May 11, 2025 by bestproductreview

Dealing
with frizzy, damaged hair can be a real struggle. The market is flooded with
products promising smooth, healthy locks, but how do you choose? Today, I’m
putting two popular drugstore shampoos to the test: L’Oréal Paris Total Repair
5 and Tresemmé Keratin Smooth, both claiming to tame frizz and repair damage
with the help of keratin. Let’s see which one comes out on top.

L'Oréal Paris Total Repair 5 Shampoo:

L'Oreal Paris Shampoo, For Damaged and Weak Hair, With Pro-Keratin + Ceramide, Total Repair 5

  • Claims: This shampoo targets 5 common hair problems: damage, dryness, roughness, dullness, and split ends. It boasts a Pro-Keratin + Ceramide formula to strengthen and repair.
  • Packaging: The L’Oréal Total Repair 5 comes in a sturdy, easily squeezable 1-liter bottle, which is great value for the price.
  • Texture and Scent: The shampoo has a creamy texture and a pleasant, slightly floral scent. It lathers well and rinses clean without leaving a heavy residue.
  • Performance: I’ve been using this shampoo for a few weeks now, and I’ve noticed a slight improvement in the overall smoothness of my hair. It does seem to best shampoo for dry hair, and my hair feels softer after each wash. However, I haven’t seen a dramatic reduction in frizz, especially in humid weather. It does a decent job of managing it, but it’s not completely eliminated. As for hair damage shampoo repair, it’s hard to tell after just a few weeks, but my hair does feel stronger and less prone to breakage.
  • Overall: A good everyday shampoo for managing mild frizz and dryness. Or can say that best shampoo for frizzy hair and damaged hair. The large bottle is economical, and the scent is pleasant. It might not be enough for those with severely damaged or extremely frizzy hair.

Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo:

TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo 1000ml With Keratin Protein and Argan Oil Salon-Like Smooth Hair Up To 72H Frizz Control

  • Claims: This shampoo promises to smooth frizz, detangle, and add shine with its Keratin and Argan Oil infused formula.
  • Packaging: The Tresemmé Keratin Smooth also comes in a large 1-liter bottle, similar to the L’Oréal. The packaging is functional and easy to use.
  • Texture and Scent: This shampoo has a slightly thicker consistency than the L’Oréal, and the scent is a bit stronger, a sweet, almost perfume-like fragrance. It lathers well.
  • Performance: I found the Tresemmé Keratin Smooth to be more effective at controlling frizz than the L’Oréal professional shampoo. My hair felt noticeably smoother and more manageable after just one use. It also seemed to add a bit more shine. However, the stronger fragrance might be a bit overpowering for some. While it did help with frizz, I didn’t notice a significant difference in terms of damage repair. My hair felt soft, but I didn’t see a visible reduction in split ends or breakage.
  • Overall: A better option for those primarily focused on frizz control. The smoothing effect is noticeable, and it leaves hair looking shiny. However, the strong fragrance might be a downside for some, and the damage repair benefits seem limited.

For my hair type (frizzy, slightly damaged), the Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo is the winner. It provides better frizz control and leaves my hair smoother and shinier. However, if you’re sensitive to fragrance, the L’Oréal Total Repair 5 might be a better choice. Both shampoos offer good value for the price, especially with the large bottles.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose L’Oréal Total Repair 5 if: You have mild frizz and dryness and are looking for an everyday shampoo that’s gentle and economical. You prefer a lighter fragrance.
  • Choose Tresemmé Keratin Smooth if: Frizz control is your top priority. You want smoother, shinier hair and don’t mind a stronger scent.

Ultimately, the best shampoo for you will depend on your individual hair needs and preferences. It might be worth trying both to see which one works best for you. Remember to follow up with a good conditioner for best results!
